January 19 2016 Royals 06 Elite Win Kennedy Memorial

West Warwick, R.I.- The 2006 Squirt Minor Long Island Royals team went undefeated with a perfect 7-0 record this past weekend at the Kennedy Memorial. Playing against all EHF and E9 team, both top tier 1 leagues from the New England area. & Beating teams such as the Boston Jr Eagles, Providence Capitals, and New England Falcons. Despite coming down with a few illnesses the 06 team was able to battle through and beat the Boston Jr. Eagles in the final 7-6. &

January 06 2016 LI Royals 2005 Team Takes Bronze Medal at Ottawa Bell Cup Tournament

(Kanata, ONT) The LI Royals Squirt Major team traveled up to Ottawa over the holiday break to compete in the 17th annual Bell Capital Cup tournament – one of the largest youth hockey tournaments in Canada. The team ended the weekend with a 3-1-2 record, losing a close game in the semifinals to the Toronto-based Don Mills Flyers. Congratulations to the players, coaches, and parents on a great week of hockey. Go Royals!

December 08 2015 Two Royals on USA World Junior Roster

Two former Long Island Royals named to World Junior Roster for Team USA, Sonny Milano and Brandon Fortunato.

The boys will report to Boston University for training camp December 14-18, followed by an additional training camp in Vierumaki, Finland from December 19-24. According to USA Hockey’s press release, the final 23-man roster is expected to be named on December 24 and the team will compete in the International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship, December 26-January 5 in Helsinki, Finland.

Milano, spent five seasons with the& Long Island Royals, amassing 91 points (48G 33A) in 47 regular games. Milano would shine at 14U, scoring 64 points (39G 25A) in 28 regular season games, which led the Massapequa, New York native to relocate to the Cleveland Barons organization, which plays in the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League.

Milano continued to have offensive success in the T1EHL, registering 87 points (44G 43A) in 40 games, which led Milano to a spot with the US NTDP alongside Hitchcock.

Milano continued to display his offensive prowess with the US NTDP, becoming one of the more prolific scorers in program history, scoring 134 points (49G 85A) in 114 games, finishing fifth in career assists. The& Columbus Blue Jackets& took a liking to the high-scoring forward and made him the 16th& overall selection in the 2014 NHL Draft, which at the time, was the highest selection of an AYHL alumnus in the modern era.

Milano, who played on the 2015 U.S. National Junior Team, reported to the Ontario Hockey League’s& Plymouth Whalers, where he amassed 68 points (22G 46A) in 50 games before reporting to the& Springfield Falcons& (AHL) to close out his 2014-15 campaign.

This season, Milano has dressed in 22 games for the& Lake Erie Monsters& (AHL), with four goals and seven assists.

Fortunato began his AYHL career with the Gulls, spending six seasons with the program before closing out his AYHL career with a Midget 16U National season with the Royals organization. All told, Fortunato played in 142 AYHL regular season games, collecting 37 goals and 96 assists.

A late addition to the US NTDP, Fortunato spent two seasons in Ann Arbor, also winning gold in 2014 before joining Boston University.

With Boston, Fortunato skated in 41 games as a freshman, tallying 18 points (1G 17A) for the national runner-up. This season, the Albertson, New York native has increased his offensive production, scoring four goals with 10 assists in just 15 games.

December 04 2015 Robert Mastrosimone has committed to Boston University

KINGS PARK, N.Y. – The Long Island Royals are proud to announce that former forward Robert Mastrosimone ’01 has committed to play and attend school at Boston University beginning in the fall of 2019.

&

Mastrosimone, or what he more commonly referred to as ‘Ducky” was a part of the ’00 Royals PW Major team that won the NYSAHA title and the AYHL Title in 2012-2013.

Roberts playing career is full of accomplishments and accolades. Usually playing up a birth year playing against older kids.& A lifelong Royal, Robert played 8 seasons with the LI Royals from Mite Minor to Bantam Major.

“My time with the Royals really helped me gain exposure to both USHL and D-1 college teams.& We played about 90 games and 12 tournaments/showcases in my Bantam Major year,” said Mastrosimone.& This season, Mastrosimone plays for Shattuck Saint Mary’s a hockey prep school located in Minnesota.

Mastrosimone played under long time Royals Head Coach, Jack Greig who has pushed many players to the next level which includes Sonny Milano the 1st& round draft pick of Columbus in the 2014 Draft.

Long Island Royals would like to congratulate Robert and his family on taking the next step in his hockey career.

December 02 2015 Squirt Minor '06 win at Valley Jr Warriors

Haverhill, MA - & The Long Island Royals would like to congratulate the 2006 Squirt Minor team for taking home the 1st place & crown in Haverhill, Mass this past Thanksgiving weekend. They faced off against some strong teams going 3-1 in the Round Robin. They had a competitive semi-final game vs a Canadian team, Ottawa Valley. & After winning that contest they faced-off against the Seacoast Spartans, which had previously beat them 5-4 in the Round Robin. The team came out solid and put the game away early as they looked for revenge. The Royals won the Final game & 6-2 to take home the hardware. & Congratulations to the Squirt Minor '06 team.

The McGuigan family has owned and operated Superior Ice Rink since 1972. During this time, we have proudly provided the local community, with their recreational ice skating and ice hockey activities in a true family atmosphere. We would like to thank all of our past, present and future customers for their ongoing support and patronage, as well as for helping us realize our goal of supplying a safe, fun and enjoyable experience for their families. Superior Ice Rink is operated all-year round for public ice skating, figure skating, learn to skate programs, youth ice hockey and adult ice hockey. During the summertime we also offer summer hockey camps for all levels of youth hockey players. All of our programs are staffed by professionals with many years of experience in their field. The greatest enjoyment of the ice rink business is seeing the smiling faces of the family members of all ages. Our most rewarding compliment has come from people who have come through our programs as youngsters and young adults, only to return years later with the feeling of being "back home."
